    Background: All non-sworn applicants are required to go through a background check and fingerprinting prior to appointment.

    All appointments are made via certification lists, transfer, or reinstatement.

    Certification List: Applicants that have taken the exam and obtained list eligibility and meet the minimum qualification may apply. All list applicants must meet the minimum qualification for the classification they are applying for. If you have list eligibility, submit your state application through your CalCareer account and be sure to list your eligibility as list eligibility. HR will review your application to determine if you are reachable.

    Transfers: All transfer applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the classification they are applying for and meet transfer rules. If you believe you can transfer, submit your state application through your CalCareer account and be sure to list your eligibility as a transfer. HR will review your application to determine if a transfer is appropriate.

    Reinstatement: Government Code Section 19140 provides permissive reinstatement eligibility if you previously held a State civil service position as a permanent or probationary employee and you have not been terminated for cause. If you believe you can reinstate, submit your state application through your CalCareer account. Be sure to list your eligibility as a reinstatement. HR will review your application to determine if a reinstatement is appropriate.
