ABC Asks the Public and Licensees to Prevent Impaired Driving this Labor Day Weekend
ABC will help with DUI prevention
Sacramento – The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) reminds Californians to celebrate Labor Day weekend responsibly by planning a safe and sober ride home.
“Our agents will be out this holiday weekend to help keep our communities safe,” said ABC Director Joseph McCullough. “ABC licensed businesses can play an important role in reducing DUI’s by checking IDs and not over-serving patrons.”
Additionally, the public can help prevent tragic crashes by doing the following:
- Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking.
- If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
- If you see an impaired driver, call 911. And always wear your seat belt — it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that during the Labor Day weekend each year, there is a rise in alcohol-related vehicle crashes. According to NHTSA, 490 people nationwide died in traffic crashes on Labor Day weekend in 2022—39% of those crashes involved a drunk driver, and 25% involved a drunk driver with a BAC of 0.15 or more.
