Information about General Bed and Breakfast Inn License (Type 80)
Effective January 1, 2002 the Legislature authorized the issuance of a new Bed & Breakfast Inn license, which allows for the service of all alcoholic beverages to registered guests of the establishment. (Section 24045.12 Business & Professions Code).

Type 80 license qualifications and requirements
- An establishment of 20 guestrooms or less
- Provides overnight transient occupancy accommodations
- Serves food only to registered guests
- Serves only a breakfast or similar early morning meal
- The price of food and beverages are included in the room fee
- Guests may not remove alcoholic beverages served in the establishment from the grounds
- B&B licensees must purchase all beer, wine or distilled spirits from a licensed wholesaler or winegrower
- The license may be transferred to another person but not to another location

- This application includes a non-refundable original application fee and an annual per-room renewal fee, plus any applicable surcharges.

Exchanging a Type 67 B&B wine license for a new Type 80 B&B on-sale general license
- A current Type 67 On-Sale Wine B&B licensee who wishes to upgrade to a Type 80 On-Sale General B&B license may file an application at their local district ABC office and pay the original application fee.
The application process will be coordinated so that the Type 67 license will be canceled upon issuance of the new Type 80 license.
- Prior to filing an application for a new Type 80 license applicants should check with their local County or City Planning/Zoning departments to determine whether the upgrade in license privileges will require approval or modification of an existing Conditional Use Permit.
